My divorce was final in 1998 after I relinquished my share of the house for a set amount of money. I signed over to my then wife an Interspousal Transfer Grand Deed, in which I transferred all my "interest" in the residence. 3 years later I have tried to get a small loan & was turned down because my name is STILL on the mortgage note. Three separate banking institutions turned me down for a small consolidation loan because my name is still on this house & the house I presently own. How do I get my name off the house from my now disolved marriage? I have asked the ex-wife to please remove my name from the liability by either refinancing or assumption of the loan, but she will not comply. I was told by the divorce attorney that by signing this Interspousal Transfer Grant Deed, that it would release me from the liability on the home. He was wrong & will not resolve my delima by sending a letter to my ex-wife requesting she promptly remove my name from the mortgage note. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO GET MY NAME OFF THIS MORTGAGE NOTE!!!
